Overview

 

 

TOOL BAR

The tool bar consists of a panel of buttons that are used to perform various functions.

See Tool Bar Buttons for an explanation of each button function.

 

LEGEND

This window shows the geographic layers of information that may be viewed

and identified by the user. Visibility of a layer is controlled by a checkbox opposite

the layer name and by the map scale. The more you zoom in on a location, the more

layers of information are displayed. Symbols for each of the chosen layers will show up

on the map itself.

The Legend serves as a key to each symbol meaning on the map canvas.

 

SEARCH FRAME

This area of the screen displays 4 separate methods for performing location searching.

Location searches are:

By Address

By Street Intersection

By Place Name

By Postal Code

 

INFORMATION FRAME

The information frame displays the address/intersection search and query results.

A hyperlink to the search results appears in this pane. Click on the search result and

the map will show that location.

 

MAP CANVAS

The Map Canvas area contains the map image, the scale bar, the north arrow, and

the copyright text. The map image displays the street network and mapped points of interest.

These geographic elements are displayed in colour.

 

OVERVIEW MAP

The overview map displays the entire city. The red box shows the map extents of the

current map window. Clicking anywhere in the overview map will centre the main map to that

location.
